In some ways, Easter is a kids’ holiday full of springtime excitement, the idea of renewal, and of course, lots of candy. Fortunately, Metro Detroit offers a wide array of fun activities the whole family can enjoy as the day approaches.
You can do everything from visits with the Easter Bunny to a great brunch with family and friends. Or you can hang out at a local farm and spend the day enjoying the spring weather. For kids who love to get crafty, there are plenty of opportunities to color and create in a family-centric setting.
Check ahead of time for any kind of dress code or age requirements–some events may require a lot of sitting between events, and some little kids may not want to hang out that long. Dress code also varies; for example, some venues may require suitcoats or disallow blue jeans.
And be sure to check for tickets and registration. Some brunches can be costly while others are more like pancake get-togethers that may be more budget-friendly. Kids also may be comped if they are under a certain age.
Bunnyville
This annual event is a must-do for any family that wants to blend a love of the zoo with an Easter extravaganza. There are two days of Bunnyville activities from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 15 and 16; it is free with zoo admission or if you are a member. The springtime celebration includes a golden-egg hunt, “ed-zoo-cation” stations, habitat chats, spring-themed animal encounters and complimentary bunny ears.
Daxton Easter event
If you want to combine a great meal with an Easter outing, then this Birmingham hotel has just the right get-together. The grand buffet also comes with an activity-filled morning or afternoon, depending on when you want to attend. There will be lots of kids’ activities as well as a visit from the Easter Bunny for pictures. You can enjoy a scavenger hunt, Shetland pony visits, a caricature artist and balloon animals for all. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
Family Fun Day
Head over to the Clarkston Family Farm for its April 16 Easter Egg Hunt and baby farm animal event. The festivities run from noon to 4 p.m. with the farm and garden spaces open for all to enjoy. There will be an egg hunt, crafts, hayrides, a local vendor market and music. The event is free but you are encouraged to register in advance.
Easter Eggstravaganza
If you want to combine a faith-based event with your family fun, then you’ll find a great community event at Metropolitan Church of the Nazarene at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, in Roseville. This free egg hunt includes crafts, storytime, cupcake decorating and a visit from the Easter Bunny. The best ages to participate are between infant and sixth grade; adult supervision is requested.
Easter Brunch
Join chefs Darris and Ty to try the ample and delicious brunch at MacRay Harbor. The Harrison Township mainstay is offering an Easter brunch at 10 a.m. on Sunday, April 17. The ticketed event includes breakfast fixings as well as great salads, assorted cheeses, pastas and a huge dessert table. There are three seating times to choose from and kids under three are free.
